Happy Monday, Corporate Sisters!
On this hot Summer Monday, we’re going to chat about decisiveness. Being decisive in a corporate job can have so many benefits!
People who are decisive (in any realm of life) are seen as stronger, more confident, and more capable. Decisiveness moves projects along more quickly, and helps eliminate confusion within teams. It also shows that you’ve got some great leadership qualities.
Decisiveness is a wonderful quality in a leader, but it’s equally as beneficial in an employee. Again, it shows that you’re confident in your role!
Being able to make decisions without pestering your boss or teammates for their guidance and opinions makes everyone else confident that you know what you’re doing. Leaders want people working for them that are competent - they can execute on a plan or project independently. They don’t need babysitting.
If no one on your team is willing to step up and own a decision, then you’re not going to get anywhere fast. People will be confused on the direction of the project, or the next step, or how we’re overcoming this unforeseen bump in the road (which happens in EVERY project).
If you’re the one that steps into that decision-making role, that’s a great indicator to your manager that you’re on track to becoming a strong leader.
Will there be times where you step up to own a decision, and it turns out to be the wrong one? Absolutely. Does that happen to every leader and employee at some point? Also absolutely. Hopefully you’re at an organization where people around you are supportive of that, and they’re willing to help you redirect to the right decision.
This week, I challenge you to make some decisions for yourself. Start small if you need to - don’t jump straight to massive decisions with big impacts on the company! Just be aware of when you want to ask for opinions for something that you can decide for yourself.
I’ll see you next week! Remember, you can either kick this week’s ass, or let it kick yours.
